About this deal

The Shark 3-in-1 Air Purifier, Heater and Fan is a great alternative to the Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool Formaldehyde HP09, coming in at a fraction of the price. In addition, there's no accompanying app, which may just suit those looking for a more simple unit. part filtration system: captures 99% of common airborne PM 2.5 pollutants (allergens, odors, smoke, mold spores, dust mites, pet dander The Blueair Blue Pure is very quiet on its lowest setting. You’ll know it’s on by the single white light illuminating a third of the center circle. To bump it up to its middle setting, press the circle again and a second light will come on. For the highest setting, press a third time, and the circle of light will be complete. To turn it off, press the circle again and all the lights will go out as well. This center circle light will glow red when it’s time to change the filter. The 411 is whisper silent, energy efficient and the one-button speed control makes it super easy to use. And when you finally have to replace the filter, you don’t have to be an engineer – all you need is one simple twist. AHAM certified room size is the size of room in which the air purifier can provide a full five air changes per hour. Therefore refreshing all of the air in the room through its filters once every twelve minutes. This is more relevant than 'maximum' room size which does not reflect an air purifiers genuine effective capability. Always be sure to only use the 'AHAM certified' room size for true comparison purposes.

In our opinion, the app could do with a little refinement, perhaps showing air quality history from earlier on in the week. Note that the location setting isn't particularly accurate, either. Design-wise, the MeacoClean isn't the most attractive, but we do appreciated function over style when it serves a purpose as good as this one. Some air purifiers can also cool and / or heat the room. Both the Dyson air purifiers and the Shark 3-in-1 Air Purifier, Heater & Fan with NanoSeal HEPA in this guide offer such capabilities. Despite the picture above, there is no way I'd use this in the kitchen if you're doing high-temperature cooking that will produce smoke and oily fumes. Get a more butch air purifier if you're going to do that. Or, you know, turn on the kitchen extractor fan that is there to do that exact job. It’s great to have four operating modes so it can be set depending on what’s going on inside your home or with your allergies. So, for example, if you're a hayfever sufferer you might choose a lower setting in winter when there's not much pollen. Or if you're spring cleaning and dust is flying around as you move furniture, a higher may be required. I would also certainly switch it to Boost if I noticed the air quality light was showing red and indicating that the air was quite polluted. A fan that circulates air, or a portable air conditioning unit that actively lowers the temperature, would be the better way to cool the air. Do air purifiers remove smells? IN terms of power consumption, having been on for four hours on the Everyday setting, the air purifier used only 0.008kWh of electricity, which is so low you’ll barely notice a change in your electricity bill. In the UK, this is less than 2p per 24 hours of continual use at this setting (based on an electricity price of 35p per kWh). In the US, the cost would be less than 1 cent for a 24-hour period (based on an electricity price of 20c per kWh). Note that prices vary between states and suppliers, so you may need to do your own calculations. Either way, the Blue Pure 411 Auto air purifier isn't an appliance that guzzles energy.

Blue Pure 411 cleans your indoor air completely five times per hour, and gives you great value from day one – and throughout your whole ownership. On normal operating speed, Blue Pure 411 uses only 1,5 watts, that's a big win for you and for the environment. In fact, as an Energy Star-Certified air purifier, Blue Pure 411 uses only half the energy of a small LED light! During testing, we found that an app can deliver greater insights to the air quality inside the home. There's only so much information that the display panel can show, and if you want to monitor the air quality over a time period, then this is only possible through app support. For bedrooms, hallways, front rooms, parlours and anywhere else you're not setting fire to stuff the Blue Pure 411 seems to do a perfectly good job. The maximum room size recommended by Blueair is 15 m sq which, understandably, is on the small size. In our tests, we found that the air purifiers removed the lingering smells of candles, incense and dry shampoo. This relatively small air purifier is ideal for small bedrooms, offices, dorm rooms, and nurseries. My experience with the Blueair Blue Pure 411 Air Purifier

As for those wildfires, it will be interesting to see how this filter performs if we get a lot of smoke again like 2020. Subjectively, it performed well in 2021, keeping our indoor air clear on the smokiest days. I didn’t have an air quality monitor at the time, however, though I do plan on acquiring one this summer. If/when I get readings, I’ll update this post with results. During our tests, our reviewer, Jennifer, found that the Autoreact did a better job of purifying the air rather than cooling it; it took this model some time to bring down the temperature of a room. In fact, by the time the room was showing as having come down in temperature, we no longer needed to be cool/ or we had moved rooms. The 10 speed settings and night time mode were useful for speeding up the cooling and purification of the air, and keeping control of the noise output.

A reasonably priced purifier to freshen the air in your home

Because our filter is crib-side and is audible outside the room (on the top setting), I tested the decibel levels. From a meter away it was just 38 on high and 15 on low. This was lower than Blueair’s measurements of 46 decibels on high (the sound of a library) and 17 on low. Put simply, there’s no need to worry about using this filter beside a crib. In addition to the smokey room test, we also evaluate the unit's CADR or clean air delivery rate. While many companies provide this information in a single number, the Blueair Blue Pure 411 breaks it up into three critical categories of air contamination — these are smoke, dust, and pollen. The 411's CADRs are about average for the class at 105 (Smoke), 120 (Dust), and 120 (Pollen). Noise Controls are pretty simple too. They are as follows: one button on the top that you push to cycle the Blue Pure 411 between its three power settings. And that's it. No apps, no displays, no flashing lights apart from a red one that tells you when to change the filter. It's very lagom, as the Swedes say. Or do I mean hyyge? It's simple and minimalist is what I am saying. Yes – air purifiers come with carbon filters that remove the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that cause smells. These could be cooking odors, scented candles or aerosols.

What else can I tell you about the Blue Pure 411? Changing the filter is a simple matter, which is good since you'll be doing it a couple of times a year at least. The filter is a three-layer affair, with an outer filter to catch larger particles and dust, a fine HEPA filter to remove particles and allergens and a carbon filter to deal with fumes. Aside from the hefty price, our only other (slight) criticism of the Dyson Hot+Cool Formaldehyde is that if you want it to automatically switch on when the unit detects changes in the air, you'll have to remember to put in Auto mode. Before T3, Duncan was a music and film reviewer, worked for a magazine about gambling that employed a surprisingly large number of convicted criminals, and then a magazine called Bizarre that was essentially like a cross between Reddit and DeviantArt, before the invention of the internet. There was also a lengthy period where he essentially wrote all of T3 magazine every month for about 3 years. The Blueair Blue Pure has a 3-stage filtration process that first captures larger particles like dust and pet hair in an external washable pre-filter. The air then moves through a particle filter and activated carbon filter. With arguably better than HEPA technology, this air purifier traps airborne contaminants down to the size of a virus. The Blueair Blue Pure is great for clearing air of: If you’re nerdy about air quality, consider purchasing a Blueair purifier that connects to the company’s air quality monitoring smartphone app and Alexa. You can then operate your air purifier using voice commands and remotely monitor air quality. We keep the purifier on the highest setting as it’s an excellent white noise machine. The Blueair not only helps to soothe our baby to sleep, it also drowns out the noise of the wolf that lives next door. That’s right, we have a wolf hybrid neighbor who howls for a large part of the night (and day). Without the air filter, I’m constantly woken up with spiked adrenaline (not awesome in pregnancy). With the air purifier, I sleep right through the howling. The size and appearance of the 411 Auto air purifier where, in my opinion, Blueair has hit the spot. First, as a floor-standing air purifier it’s quite compact, which will make it suitable for most spaces. It weighs just 3.8lbs / 1.68kg, too, so is lightweight and easy to move from room to room. We haven’t used the air filter in our kitchen, which is at the other end of the house, so I can’t say how this does for cooking odors. Other reviewers suggest the Blueair works really well though, as long as you move it to the kitchen while cooking. Similarly, it’s hard to tell how effective the Blueair is for VOCs, given that we’re pretty diligent about avoiding these in our home. On the standard Everyday setting, the Blue Pure 411 Auto is quiet, measuring just 35dB on the sound meter. In Night mode, its gentle hum is barely noticeable, registering 29dB; chances are, your own breathing will be louder. As expected, the unit is louder in Boost mode at 55dB, but still no noisier than most fans I’ve encountered. I’ve written quite a bit about how to choose an effective air purifier, so if you’re not familiar with CADR, AHAM and so forth, get a crash course here. Or consider buying the Blueair Blue Pure 411 (or 211+). These filters carry an AHAM Verifide seal and a CADR. The 411 has a CADR of 120 for dust and pollen. This means that at the top setting the filter produces 120 cubic feet of clean air every minute. For smoke, the CADR is 105. The purifier manages about 5 air exchanges per hour for a small bedroom or nursery, or one every 12.5 minutes.
