About this deal

This versatile (and excellent value) massage gun gives the user plenty of control, with five speed settings and five massage heads to choose from. In the Runner’s World Lab, we put each one to the test, making sure they packed enough of a punch to soothe aching muscles.

In the age of self-care, this science-backed method increases blood flow and loosens up tight spots – ideal for combatting DOMS and making your rest days work as hard as you do (it's only fair, right? It also boasts five other attachments including a ‘spinal’ head for larger muscles group and a soft ‘invor’ head for stimulating the nerves in your hands and feet. With eight interchangeable massage heads – the highest number in our round-up – the nifty device allows you to warm up your muscles and alleviate aches and pains in a variety of different ways. You get five interchangeable heads (most mini massagers come with just one or two) and there are five speed settings to flit between, giving you a whopping 25 massage combos to try.

It has all the speeds and attachments most people will need, although at 7mm amplitude, it doesn’t massage quite as deeply as some of the most expensive models. We also loved the option to crank up the heat or use the frozen massage head, providing hot and cold massages – ideal for a pre-workout muscle primer and thorough cool down, respectively. It features a heating head with two temperature settings – 45C and 55C – to turbocharge your recovery. This particular massage gun comes with attachments which vary in size and shape, which target different specific muscle groups. And while the box may be a bit too bulky to take with you to the track, this massage gun was unmatched when it came to recovery sessions in situ. This increase in blood flow can help calm inflammation and soreness by removing lactic acid and waste products, aiding your recovery between and after workouts. It proved extremely powerful and effective, gliding across skin without pulling for a relaxing massaging experience.

Given its hefty size, it’s not one you can tuck into your pocket, but it does come with a very smart travel case (complete with compartments for the different attachments and rechargeable battery), if you fancy lugging it around with you. Hold in the on/off button for a few seconds to turn it on, then cycle through the intensities with each press. There's just one button on the compact, rubberised unit itself, and it acts as an on/off switch at the same time as controlling the intensity of the vibration. It proved easy to control (there’s just one responsive button so you don’t have to fumble around trying to figure out what to press), it moved smoothly over skin and the quiet motor meant no turning the TV up mid-massage. The third Therabody product on our list, the Theragun Elite claims to reach 60% deeper into the muscle than average massagers, thanks to a hardcore 16mm amplitude. They also said it was sufficiently powerful, providing instant relief from soreness, even at lower speeds.

Physical Therapists Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck have over 60 years of combined experience in the physical therapy field.Therabody is an expert in producing game-changing massage guns, known especially for the ergonomic triangular handle that made this gun extremely easy to use, even on our back.
